The Greenville Middle took the field Friday against Charles Henderson and wasted no time before they got on the board.
The two-play drive ended in a touchdown and set the tone for the rest of the game. The final score was GMS 44 – CHMS 12.
Arlyric Posey claimed the first touchdown with a 30-yard run. Jerome Watkins ran in the two-point conversion. Troy answered, failing to add any extra points, giving GMS the lead, 8-6.
Watkins ran in a 3-yard touchdown to increase the Tigers’ lead, but the 2-point conversion failed, 14-8, GMS ahead.
The Tigers shut down Charles Henderson’s offense for the rest of the first half. The Tigers would go into halftime ahead, but not before Parish Patton caught a 36-yard touchdown, with Devonte Posey running in the extra two. At half, GMS lead 22-6.
The second half did not go well for Charles Henderson. They managed to pick up another 6, but GMS could not be contained. Watkins ran in two more touchdowns, converting one 2-point conversion with a pass to Javarious Cheatham.
Head coach Josh McLendon was pleased with the outcome.
“I am really proud of the way our boys went on the road and fought,” McLendon said. “We tell our guys that if you work hard, good things will happen, and they proved that tonight.”
Next week, the Tigers will play their first home game versus Wetumpka.
