Duke better duck, Newton will lead AU

Ah-Hah! Now we know a little bit more about what’s going on in college football. Although, still, the pigskin is bound to keep you guessing. You never know which way it’s going to bounce.
Several teams looked good Saturday. Namely, Alabama, Ohio State and Oklahoma.
Alabama won possibly the most un-storied football game in the storied tradition of games between the Crimson Tide and Penn State. Ohio State turned Miami’s turnover problem into a win. And Oklahoma absolutely stripped Florida State of its manhood in a 47-17 win.
Several teams also looked very bad on Saturday. We’re talking to you Virginia Tech and Minnesota. Those were the two BCS teams – one ranked in the Hokies – that went down to Football subdivision schools (formerly 1-AA).
A perfect 11-0 pick ’em last week brings our total record to 23-2.
With the meat of the SEC schedule still ahead of us.
Alabama at Duke (ABC, 2:30 p.m.): The rich get richer. Alabama gets Marcell Dareus and Mark Ingram back for this game, which could be over as soon as the Crimson Tide enter the stadium (Duke players might go into cardiac arrest at all the talent and speed they see in red and white). Duke quarterback Sean Renfree can toss the ball (358 yards in a loss to Wake Forest last week), but he won’t have time to take advantage of Bama’s still-young secondary. Dareus and crew bring it. Alabama 45, Duke 9
Clemson at Auburn (ESPN, 6 p.m.): The Tigers escaped Starkville by the hairs of their chinny-chin-chins. But a 17-14 win in the SEC on the road is nothing to laugh it. Especially against a team that had targeted the Tigers all summer long leading up to last Thursday’s contest. Clemson comes to town (along with ESPN’s Gameday), also 2-0, but has been less than impressive in wins over North Texas and Presbyterian. Expect offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn to unleash quarterback Cam Newton a bit more than he did against State. Auburn 28, Clemson 14
Troy at UAB (3 p.m.): The Trojans were hand-gifted a win by Oklahoma State last weekend, turning the ball over twice inside Cowboys’ territory. As such, Oklahoma State escaped with a 41-38 win. Troy shouldn’t have this much trouble with UAB. But who knows? Anything goes in a rival game. Troy 26, UAB 21
Alabama State at Prairie View A&M (4 p.m.): ASU’s Devin Dominguez continues to play well for the Hornets. He threw for five touchdowns in the win last week. A road trip Saturday to Texas awaits. Give the nod to the home team. Prairie View A&M 17, ASU 14
Other games: Kentucky over Akron; LSU over Mississippi State; Ole Miss over Vanderbilt; South Carolina over Furman; Georgia over Arkansas; Florida over Tennessee.
