Margaret Walburn

Margaret Hodo Walburn, age 97, passed away at her home May 22, 2010.
Visitation services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 25 at the Livingston United Methodist Church, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. Graveside services will be in Greenville at Magnolia Cemetery at 3:30 p.m.
Her husband, Percy James Walburn; her parents, Henry Gunter Hodo Sr. and Georgia White Hodo; her brothers, James Edward Hodo, Henry Gunter Hodo Jr. and Charles White Hodo and her sister Ruth Hodo Johnson, all preceded her in death.
Survivors include her sons, Dr. James Hodo Walburn (Dean), Tuscaloosa, Henry Fred Walburn, Livingston; her sister, Claire Hodo Tettemer (Bill), Orlando; her brother Dr. John Baldwin Hodo (Gloria), Birmingham; her grandchildren, the Rev. Deanie Walburn Strength (Joey), St. Simon’s Island, Meg Walburn Bashinsky (Leo), Birmingham, Sally Walburn Birdsall (Jeremy), Jackson, Mary Walburn Cozart (Todd), Atlanta, Henry Gunter Hodo Walburn Sr. (Jennifer), Birmingham; great-grandchildren, Mary Margaret Cozart, Henry Smith Cozart, Henry Gunter Hodo Walburn Jr., William Hudson Walburn, Caroline Reese Walburn, Leo Max Bashinsky V, Anna Nelson Bashinky, Margaret Hodo Birdsall, Beatrice Birdsall, James O’Neal Strength and Nell Pruett Strength. Many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins were also among the survivors.
Mrs. Walburn was born on March 6, 1913 in Millport where she graduated from high school. She graduated from Judson College in 1934 and received a master’s degree from the University of Chicago in 1936. She taught in the Sociology Department of Alabama College (now the University of Montevallo), at Robinson School, Birmingham and at Greenville High School. After retiring from teaching, she worked at L.V. Stabler Memorial Hospital in Greenville. The family would like to give heartfelt thanks to Ruthie Wood and Carol Pearce for their loving and faithful services over the last ten years.
