Retirees honored at BOE reception

They’ve devoted 392 years of combined service to schools, 353 of those years right here in Butler County.
A total of 14 retirees from the Butler County School System were honored last Thursday with a reception, followed by individual recognition by superintendent Darren Douthitt.
“These individuals have taught our students in the classrooms, driven them on buses, fed them meals and served in other capacities.
Their contribution is much appreciated,” Douthitt said.
Those honored were as follows: Alton Abrams, director of the Alternative School, 37 total years of service in the county; Sherry Bennett, CFO for the Central Office, 25 years; Wayne Boswell, administrative assistant, Central Office, 38 years; Peggy Joyce Gandy, Special Ed. Aide, BCMS, 20 years; Virtiria Gandy, CNP worker, BCMS, 18 years; Michelle Johnson, English teacher, GHS, 35 years (20 in county); Charlie Lloyd, mechanic, Transportation Department, 43 years; Zollie Owens, custodian, GHS, 28 years; Charlotte Scott, bus driver, TD, 12 years; Ada Sue Thompson, lead school nurse for Central Office, 36 years; Dorothy Tillman, Special Ed. Teacher, BCMS, 26 years (16 in county); Gerre Walley, Special Ed. Teacher, BCMS, 33 years (22 in county); Angeline Taylor, CNP worker, W.O.
