Fort Dale’s varsity girl’s basketball team attended team camp at Troy University this past week June 24–26.
The team had a record of 7-2 during the week, winning the camp tournament on Saturday.
The Lady Eagles are coached by Reggie Mantooth who returns as head coach to Fort Dale this year after a coaching stint at Oak Mountain High School.
Mantooth was previously at Fort Dale from 1994 through 2007 where he amassed a record of 503 wins and 189 losses with five state championships.
Winning the tournament on Saturday was no easy task since the finals pitted the girls up against a much larger school.
Mosley High School out of Panama City Florida has an enrollment of 2,100 and had beat Fort Dale earlier in the week.
The championship game was a hard fought battle the entire way with Fort Dale pulling out the win in an exciting game 23 -22.
“We had a good camp” according to Coach Mantooth. “I thought we got a little better from the first day until the last day. It was good to win the camp championship, because I think it will give us some confidence for next year. Hopefully the camp will motivate the girls to continue working hard this summer.”
The team will have six seniors this coming year so they should have an experienced team.
