Farmer’s Market to commemorate one-month anniversary

The Butler County Farmer’s Market will celebrate its one-month anniversary of being in operation tomorrow amidst continuing construction.
To commemorate the milestone, Richard Branum said they would be gathering at the market on Thursday at 8 a.m. for a picture and ceremony to help bring publicity to the farmers.
Monday morning, the county commission agreed to give $7,000 to the market to help offset construction costs.
“As we were building, people kept adding to it and adding to it,” Branum said. “We are probably going to have to ask for other donations.”
Workers are busy putting finishing touches on the building before more additions can be made.
“We’ve still got to do the wiring, electricity, and the restrooms and that type of stuff,” Branum said. “If we can raise enough, we might pour some slabs on the sides.”
The market is open every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m., or whenever the day’s crop sells out.
“We have had a great turnout so far,” Branum said. “Saturday, we had 12 vendors and we only have 10 bays.”
Over twenty-five growers are registered to sell at the market, Branum said, and more are being sought to make sure the market is stocked.
“We are hoping there won’t be a lull between harvests,” Branum said. “The farmers have already started planting their second crop.”
