L.V. Stabler has hired another doctor.

Dr. Kaneez Leonard will be serving as a family medicine specialist.

Leonard, who just finished her residency program in LSU, has been all over the United States and world in pursuit of her medical education.

Leonard, whose father was a physician, said she has always wanted to be a doctor. Her journey to fulfill this goal would take far from her southwestern home of Nacogdoches, Texas.

“I attended the University of Sint Eustatius in Antilles, Dutch Caribbean,” Leonard said. “I went for the adventure-it just sounded like a fun idea.”

Leonard said living on the small island of Sint Eustatius, which is only eight square miles in size, kept her focused on her studies.

From there, it was back across the ocean to Greeley, Col., where Leonard did her clinical training before starting her residency program at Louisiana State University.

After receiving her medical license, it was her husband’s air force job that would bring her to Alabama. He is currently stationed at Maxwell Air Force Base.

Leonard is coming aboard as a specialist in family medicine, which she explained is a very broad field.

“It’s geared more towards small-town medicine,” Leonard said. “It encompasses a lot of healthcare including children, adults and the elderly.”

Doctors practicing family medicine, Leonard explained, can do a little bit of everything.

“We tend to do multiple procedures, ranging from circumcision and small skin procedures to endoscopies and colonoscopies.”
