Camellia City Summerfest will be Saturday, Aug. 7 and Greenville High School head coach Ben Blackmon hopes it will become an annual event in the summer.
“We were just kicking around ideas for some type of fundraiser,” said Blackmon. “This is one that came up. We wanted to have a one-day event…kind of a community gathering and we wanted it to be low cost.”
“We” as in the Tiger Pride Booster Club. “Low cost” as in $5 a ticket.
“Once you get inside the gates, the only thing you’ll have to pay for is the concessions,” said Blackmon.
Gates open at 9 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. at Tiger Stadium. Blackmon said all GHS football players and cheerleaders will be there, so it’s a great opportunity for supporters to meet the team. Congressman Bobby Bright is scheduled to stop by at that time as well, said Blackmon.
Also scheduled is a car show, a barbecue cook-off, and a Camellia City Idol competition in the afternoon as well as a number of special musical guests.
Registration for a 5K run starts at 6 a.m. to 6:30 a.m.
The events are sponsored by Greenville Motor Co., Cates Development Co., Camellia Communications, and the Butler Co. Bar Association, respectively.
