The Greenville Camellia Society (GCS) enjoyed a Merry Christmas meeting on Dec. 11 at Beeland Park. Members were so proud to be able to give back to the community by honoring two charities with monetary gifts for their work. Kandys Killough and Courtney Rice of the Butler County Humane Society, and Ken and Jan Kilpatrick of Hope Afield, were recognized as community servants who continue to bless our community.
Society members were especially excited to host speaker Betty Anderson of the Camden Shoe Shop and Museum who spoke about her family’s connection to Gee’s Bend. The GCS will be hosting an Artisans Market Featuring Gee’s Bend Quilt Exhibition at Beeland Park during their Greenville Camellia Show weekend, Feb. 15-16, 2025.
Anderson, an artist in residence at Black Belt Treasures in Camden, will be back at that time as the featured speaker on Saturday, Feb. 15. Admission to all the Greenville Camellia Show weekend events is free.
The public is cordially invited to the Greenville Camellia Society’s 2025 Camellia Queen Pageant on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. in the Greenville High School auditorium. Admission to the event is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Winners will represent GCS for one year as the 2025 Camellia Queen or a member of her court. Come out and support the talented young women in the pageant from all four Butler County high schools.
