A new business has opened in Georgiana, celebrating a ribbon cutting event Saturday to mark the operation’s readiness for business.
City Suds, the new laundromat in Georgiana, has been an almost nine-month project by owner Andre Norris and his business partner Fannie Chisholm.
“We were sitting around on the front porch one day, and Andre said, ‘Ever since I got home from the military, Georgiana has needed a laundry mat,’ so I decided to back him on that [venture],” Chisholm said. “This is mainly his idea, he did all the work, and we had a partnership.”
City Suds offers drop and go, pick up laundry services with 10 machines for washing and drying. Additionally, washeteria has clothes pressing services.
In the future, the partners hope to bring in more washing and drying machines, as well as machines to begin offering dry cleaning.
“I had a lot of friends that told me they [were] going to Greenville to wash [clothes], going to Evergreen to wash, going to River Falls to wash, and they just kept saying, ‘We wish we had something here,’” Norris said, “They just harped on it, and I just jumped on the first opportunity; I had to do something.
“[I did this] so everybody can feel like they have their own place to come in, use good machines, and know they can take the large laundry, the quilts and everything, wash them here, and everything is safe, safe and peaceful.”
During the ribbon cutting, City Suds staff invited Georgiana residents to sample free refreshments – including donuts, water and orange juice – to celebrate the opening. Additionally, the operation gave away free laundry baskets
City Suds’ first official day open was Monday, Dec 23. The washeteria is now open to the public. City Suds can be found at 413 Miranda Ave in Georgiana.
