The Georgiana Panthers fell to the New Brockton Gamecocks, 71-62, Dec. 19. But the Panthers would not reach Christmas Day with a loss as their last game and defeated the Greenville Tiges on Dec. 21, 67-60.

It was a proper cat fight that Saturday afternoon. Given the Panthers’ advantage in MaxPreps rankings, they are 103 in the state over the Tigers, who are at 335. So, the win was not entirely unexpected.

Georgiana’s win ended a three-game drought on the road and put them at 8-and-3 on the season. The Tigers extended their seven-game losing streak and now stand at 2-and-8.

When Georgiana and Greenville next hit the hardwood to face off, it will be after the New Year with their next meeting set for Jan. 4 at 5:30 p.m.

McKenzie School Tigers

After soaring to 70 points during the previous game, McKenzie School was a bit more limited in the Thursday, Dec. 19 matchup and were dealt a 63-26 loss at the hands of the Andalusia Bulldogs. The contest marked the Tigers’ lowest scoring game so far this season.

The loss was the second in a row for McKenzie and nudged their season record to 5-and-2. For Andalusia, this was their fifth win in a row, elevating their season record to 6-and-2.

McKenzie will face off against Red Level on Jan. 2.
