Boggans add hunting, fishing section
By Kris Harrell
Greenville Hardware is adding a new section to the store, providing supplies, tools and other items needed for hunting and fishing in their Hunter’s Hideout section.
Since 1993, Greenville Hardware, formerly Dunklin Hardware, has been owned by James (Jim) and Tyler Dunklin. Now, the downtown store on Commerce Street has new owners after being sold this November to Alex and Katie Boggan.
Jim Dunklin said the decision to sell the store, a fixture in Greenville for more than 100 years, came with a buyer who seemed right for carrying on Greenville Hardware’s long legacy.
“I was 31 when I bought the store and will be 63 this march,” Jim Dunklin said. “I patiently waited for a 30-year-old who would be interested in owning the store and investing his time, energy and money in keeping it open for another 30 years and beyond.
“’The hardware store has lasted 133 years because of the support of the people in Greenville and the surrounding areas for which Tyler and I are so grateful.”
With the store’s acquisition, the Boggans plan to add the Hunter’s Hideout. Currently under construction the feature is intended to bring in new inventory in January.
“When the option came up to purchase the hardware store, it just immediately clicked in my mind,” Alex Boggan said. “It would be a perfect opportunity to start a hunting store that I’ve always wanted to do. It all tied in together. When it became available [I thought], ‘Alright, this is the time to do it, to make a move that will help support the hunting and fishing.’”
For hunters, Greenville Hardware will be adding guns, ammunition, deer stands, deer feeders, deer cameras, scent blockers and more
Additionally, there will also be tools and supplies for fishing in the hunter’s hideout section.
“We’re going to have a large fishing shop,” Boggan said. “We’re going to have a wide variety of lures, fishing reels, rods, cane poles, you’re going to have your Bubba Knives [and] any tackle that we can think of that may be needed.”
The Hunter’s Hideout section entrance will be found to the left of the main Greenville Hardware building.
Aside from the new section, Alex Boggan notes that Greenville Hardware will not change except for the addition of a point-of-sale system to improve purchases.
“If something’s not broken, you don’t fix it, so there’s nothing we need to do,” Boggan said. “We’re going to maintain what Greenville Hardware has always been known for. We just have enough space for this addition, so we’re going to do it.”
