Mr. James “Jim” Melton Wheeler, age 86, of Minter died at his residence surrounded by love, on Thursday, Dec. 19. Graveside services were held on Friday, Dec. 20, at New Bethel-Braggs Cemetery beginning at 11 a.m. with Reverend Bruce Coker officiating and Dunklin Funeral Home directing.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, George M. and Violet M. Wheeler; siblings, Jamie W. Chance, Millie W. Sheffield and Marion S. Wheeler; grandson, Matthew G. Wheeler and great granddaughter, Eliana Moore. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 65 beautiful years, Margaret Griffin Wheeler; children, Pete (Zoe) Wheeler and Tracy (Robert) Autrey; grandchildren, Jessica A. (Nathan) Senn, Kristin A. (Justin) Moore, Justin B. (Rachel) Autrey, Jamie W. (Trent) Harden, Jake G. (Jessica Hughey) Wheeler and Jimbo Wheeler and seven great grandchildren; along with many other beloved family members and friends.
Jim was born and raised in Braggs. He loved his community so much he decided he never wanted to leave. He built his life with Margaret and raised two wonderful children with her in the same close-nit community he held dear to his heart.
Jim was a man with many great accomplishments in his life. His greatest were the 65 years he spent with his best friend building a legacy together. He faithfully worked for the Ellis family at Priester’s Pecan Company for over 50 years, touching the lives of so many co-workers throughout his time. When Jim was not spending time with his family he loved so dearly, or working at Priester’s, he spent his days working the land. Jim was proud of the farm he had built and the ability to see the fruits of his labor. Jim touched the hearts and lives of so many. His absence leaves a void. He will be truly missed.
