Weather delay was no damper to festivities
Greenville’s Christmas Parade, Miracle on Main, was a bright and shining display of merriment Wednesday. Rescheduled from Tuesday due to the threat of inclement weather, festivities kicked off with a tree lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. before the parade began at 6:30 p.m.
April Lawrence, 25-year veteran Senior Revenue Officer for the city, served as Grand Marshall, leading the procession of floats and decorated personal vehicles.
According to Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tracy Salter, more than seventy entries processed down the parade route on Commerce Street.
“Parade goers gathered on Commerce Street from the Train Depot to the Butler County Courthouse as 77 entries displayed a show of lights, decoration and Christmas spirit,” Salter posted on social media.
Judges selected first, second and third place winners in the categories of church floats, business float, vehicle and ATV entries. Entries were judged on overall parade theme, originality/creativity, personalization and Christmas spirit.
Parade entry winners are:
Church Float Entry Winners
* First Place: Lifeline Church
* Second Place: College Street Church of Christ
* Third Place: Old Ealum Baptist Church
Business Float Entry Winners
* First Place: Country Place Memory Care
* Second Place: Ozark Materials
* Third Place: Butler County Soil and Water Conservation
Vehicle Entry Winners:
* First Place: Hwashin Corp.
* Second Place: Brian Moss State Farm Insurance
* Third Place: Greenville Automotive Group
ATV Entry Winners
* First Place: Greenville Equipment
* Second Place: Grow Mo Hair
* Third Place: Can Am Riders
Entrants included student groups — cheerleaders, bands, homecoming royalty and JROTC — from Butler County Schools and Fort Dale Academy. Santa made his appearance atop a ladder truck from the Greenville Fire Department, and the Grinch was there, too.
Chilly temperatures did not deter community members, who bundled up for the display and played in a bit of “snow.”
