The Shoppes on Main, located at 140 West Commerce Street in Greenville, celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Dec. 2. Local residents flocked to the event, eager to support the new business, shop and enjoy refreshments provided by Uncle E’s Catering.
The shopping destination brings together boutique businesses, local artists and craftsmen under one roof, offering a wide range of artisanal goods. Shoppers can explore handmade crafts, jewelry, clothing, pottery, home decor and locally produced foods from vendors like Flying Basset Farm, Milli and Magnolia and Glynne Ridge Unlimited.
“We have various vendors with different items,” said April Whetstone, owner of The Shoppes on Main. “They’re all local to the area or as far north as Hope Hill. They either make their own items or they buy new and then retail it here. So it’s all new items in each booth.”
Whetstone, who grew up in Greenville, shared the inspiration behind the venture.
“I was born and raised here and moved back as I was getting ready to retire,” Whetstone said. “So I was walking around in Tayla and Pearl’s one day and was like, ‘We need something like this but new stuff.’ The idea was born, people started coming out and we have a lot of local artists that are very, very talented.”
With offerings ranging from pecans to paintings, The Shoppes on Main promises something for everyone. Business hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
