Georgiana man dies in single-vehicle crash

A single-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian that occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, has claimed the life of a Georgiana man.
The pedestrian, Elgin C. McMeans, 75, was critically injured while walking in the roadway when struck by the 2011 Ford Escape driven by Jarvarous M. Lett, 28, of Peterman. McMeans was transported to Regional Medical Center of Central Alabama in Greenville, where he succumbed to injuries and pronounced deceased. The crash occurred on U.S. Highway 31 near the 122 mile marker, approximately one mile north of Georgiana, in Butler County.
Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
