Basketballs were bouncing all over the place last week as the roundball season for Butler County is in full swing.

In the week’s action, the 5A Greenville Tigers went 1-and-2 on the hardwood, falling to Pike Road, 70-48, and Wilcox Central, 73-46. The Tigers’ only win was a 79-59 margin over 3A Prattville Christian.

The Tigers stand at 2-3 so far on the season.

In McKenzie, the Tigers are off in fast-brake style as they stand at 3-and-0 with wins against 2A Pike Lib, 42-37, Straughn, 49-44 and a big win over 4A Opp, 55-47. Their next contest will be in Coffee County when they travel to meet the Kinston Bulldogs.

The victory over Opp’s Bobcats saw the Tigers’ varsity boys led by Quay Jackson and Devin Covan with 18 points and Zane Bullard with 10 rebounds.

At Fort Dale, the Eagles are 0-2. They lost at home to the Morgan Academy Senators by 10 points, 52-42, and took a hit this past Friday night with a loss by 30 points in a foul-fest contest in Bessemer, 59-29.

Trying to defend the 2023-24 1A Championship, coach Kirk Norris’s Panthers won their season opener, defeating the Monroe County Tigers 75-66 Thursday night. The Panthers Georgiana tip off their Christmas Clash with a 73-51 whipping of the Andalusia Bulldogs.

Led by Nasir Cheatham, with 16 points and 10 rebounds, Jaden Stallworth contributed a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Noah Nelson had 11 points in the dog-cat fight.

With the win, Norris captured the 400th victory of his coaching career.

The Panthers host Monroe County Thursday with tipoff at 6:30 p.m.
