Opelika woman dies in second fatal weekend crash

A single-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 12:24 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, has claimed the life of an Opelika woman. Jacqueline Moran Santos, 24, was fatally injured when the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado, she was a passenger in, left the roadway and struck a cable barrier before overturning. Moran Santos was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash, was ejected and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Silverado, Gonzalo Ayala Alvarado, 28, of Opelika, was also injured and was transported to the Regional Medical Center of Central Alabama in Greenville for treatment.
The crash occurred on Interstate 65 near the 133-mile marker, approximately four miles north of Greenville, in Butler County. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
