Butler County Basketball Season Rundown

It is time for round ball on the high school sports calendar, and here is an early look at Butler County basketball. 

The 5A Greenville Tigers are underway and stand at 2-and-2 on the young season. Their wins include a victory over 3A Monroe County, 62 to 45, and a 79-59 victory over 3A Prattville Christian. Their losses were to 3A Hillcrest of Evergreen, 63 to 57, and 6A Park Crossing, 70-48. They are in Region 3, and that consists of Andalusia, Charles Henderson of Troy and Brew Tech of Montgomery.

Across town, Coach Marshall Watts and his high-flying Fort Dale Eagles will get their 2024 2025 season underway this Tuesday as they host the 2-and-2 Monroe Academy Senators of Selma. They will play in Region 2 AISA. Their regional foes are Valiant Cross, Evangel Christian, Hooper Academy and Lowndes Academy.

Traveling south down US Highway 31, the Georgiana Panthers of legendary coach Kirk Norris got started in earnest this Monday night as they faced 3A Monroe County to defend their 2023-2024 1A state championship.

Also down Highway 31 in McKenzie, the young Tigers are 1-and-0 as they defeated the 4A Straughn Tigers, 49-44. In that game, the Tigers were led by Devin Covan 15 points and Quay Jackson’s 17 rebounds and 10 assists. The Tigers are playing in 3A with Georgiana and Red Level.
