Board denies parole request for Latwan Herbert

The Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles denied the parole petition from an inmate serving time for burglaries in Butler County.

On Nov. 7, the board voted to deny parole to Latwan Santel Herbert, 38. He is currently housed in the Elmore Correctional Facility, serving two 16-year terms for third-degree burglary convictions handed down in August 2020.

Herbert was convicted for receiving stolen property in the first degree and possessing a controlled substance in December 2011. In 2007 he was sentenced to ten years for two counts of first-degree theft of property in Conecuh County and in 2008 he was convicted for receiving stolen property, first degree. He served two years and five months for those crimes.

The board heard 22 parole petitions on Nov. 7, granting seven and denying 15. The board also held 10 pardon hearings, granting five and denying five.
