Check Your Blind Spots

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Imagine yourself sitting in your car driving down the road. You are traveling down the road in the right lane, but you realize you need to move over into the left lane. So, you flip on your blinker and check your left mirror, just like any responsible driver. Everything looks clear, and you begin to slowly merge over into the left lane.

Much to your surprise, though, you are startled to hear horns blaring behind you. As it turns out, the left lane wasn’t clear after all and, unbeknownst to you, there was another car hidden in your blind spot.

Have you ever thought about the fact that we all have spiritual blind spots? These are areas in our spiritual lives that are deficient, yet we aren’t aware of them. Maybe it’s an attitude that needs some correction. Perhaps it’s a bad habit that needs to be erased. It could even be an unbiblical belief that needs to be altered to align with the Scriptures.

Unfortunately, it’s a lot easier to spot an area of deficiency in others than it is to see our own flaws and imperfections. We all have blind spots, and we need to check for them regularly in this journey called life.

Thankfully, there’s good news — the remedy for any spiritual blind spot is an honest examination of the Scriptures. God’s word has the power to open our eyes and change our life.

We should each be in God’s word daily, carefully examining ourselves in light of what the Bible teaches. God’s word is like a mirror, and we are blessed when we look into the Scriptures as obedient hearers (see James 1:22-25). So, don’t forget to take a good look in the mirror today. Be sure to check those blind spots.
