McKenzie High School’s football team secured the 1A region title with a decisive 44-0 victory over Red Level, marking a milestone for the Tigers. Their latest triumph concludes the regular season with a 9-1 record and sets the stage for the upcoming playoffs.
“Red Level was our last regular game of the season and it’s kind of a rivalry,” said McKenzie head coach Brian Bradford. “So to go out there and be able to polish up and work on a few things against a really good team was nice.”
Reflecting on the season’s progress, Bradford emphasized the team’s remarkable turnaround.
“This puts us at 9-1,” Bradford said. “The year before I came, we were 1-8, then last year, 5-5. And now this year we’re 9-1, so it’s a pretty good jump.”
Bradford attributed the win to the dedication and hard work of his players.
“This is the first time we’ve won the region since I think 2010,” he said. “It really shows the dedication of these players and how committed they are to each other and the game. They’ve worked hard. This is a great win for the players, the school and the community.”
Round 1 kicks off against the Keith Bears on Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. at Williams-Vickery Field in McKenzie. A win against Keith would push the Tigers into the second round, where they would face the winner of the upcoming Region 1 and 3 matchup.
