Obituary – Shirley Edge Hastings

Shirley Edge Hastings, 88, died Saturday, Oct. 5, in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Mrs. Hastings was a native of Georgiana and a graduate of Georgiana High School and Massey-Draughn Business College.  After working as a legal secretary in Montgomery, she traveled extensively with her Air Force husband and family spending many years in Europe. Mrs. Hastings began her federal civil service career as a secretary eventually retiring from Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi as the civilian protocol officer.

She was preceded in death by her husband CMSgt Donald Hastings; son Donald Hastings Jr.; parents Eric and Swanee (Black) Edge and sister Bobbye Faye Hill. Survivors include her daughter, Denise Hastings of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; son, Daniel (Jodie) Hastings of Monroe, Washington; sister, Mary Agnes Hicks of Georgiana; three granddaughters, Christa (Ryan) House of Florence, Aimee (Tyler) Kamstra of Dexter, Michigan, Emily (Hanspeter) Zeigler of Woodinville, Washington; two great-granddaughters, Emerson and Finley Kamstra of Dexter, Michigan, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Services will be held at First Baptist Church of Georgiana on Oct. 10, with visitation from 9:30 – 11 a.m. and services to follow immediately.  Burial will be at Morrow School House Cemetery, Georgiana, Alabama.
