Since 1954, the Butler County Fair Association, in collaboration with the Greenville Kiwanis Club, has hosted the Butler County Fair, and this year marks the 70th anniversary. The fair will take place from Wednesday, Sept. 25, through Saturday, Sept. 28, with gates opening at 6 p.m. each evening.
“I’ve been associated with the fair since 1979,” said Fair Association Secretary-Treasurer Richard Branum. “All four of my kids went every year and help me out now, so we’re a fair family. We’re really looking forward to our 70th year. It’s just great, family fun.”
Fairgoers will be required to pass through metal detectors at the entrance, set up with the assistance of the Butler County Sheriff’s Department. Only clear bags will be permitted.
Armbands will be available at $5 on Wednesday and Thursday and $20 on Friday and Saturday, which will cover all rides. Parking is free, and gate admission is $7 for anyone 60 inches or taller, $3 for children 48 to 59 inches and free for children under 47 inches.
The fair will kick off with Community Praise and Worship on Wednesday at 6:15 p.m., followed by Thursday’s Chick Chain Auction and Taste of Butler baking auction. Friday night will feature live music from the band Tin Man at 7 p.m., and Riley Austin will perform on Saturday at the same time.
