Local teachers could get up to $500 for classroom projects through Pioneer Electric Cooperative’s Energy For Learning Grant Program.

Through the program, K-12 classroom teachers in Butler, Dallas, Lowndes and Wilcox counties can apply for $500 grants to cover the cost of projects related to science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM).

“Supporting education is one of our founding tenets as a cooperative,” said Christi Scruggs, Pioneer Electric Cooperative’s vice president of communications. “We’re excited to offer this opportunity for our educators to implement STEAM activities for our young learners.”

Teachers can visit www.pioneerelectric.com/energy-for-learning to find the program guidelines and grant application. Applications are due Oct. 1, and the prize brigade will visit schools in November to notify the winners.

The grants are provided by Pioneer Electric Cooperative’s Operation Round Up Program. Operation Round Up is funded by Pioneer Electric members who voluntarily round up their monthly electric bills to the nearest dollar. All funds benefit local organizations and individuals in need. 

Pioneer Electric Cooperative is a not-for-profit organization that serves the energy needs of approximately 12,800 members, primarily in Butler, Dallas, Lowndes and Wilcox Counties.
