U.S. Senators Katie Britt (R-AL) and Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) jointly locked in $3.5 million for the City of Greenville in the Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act. This congressionally directed spending would enable the Water Works and Sewer Board of the City of Greenville to make water supply improvements of two new production wells. 

“On behalf of Butler County Water Supply District, we are extremely grateful for Senator Britt and Senator Tuberville’s commitment to our existing infrastructure to ensure clean drinking water for today and in the future,” said Greenville Mayor Dexter McClendon. “This project will have a generational impact for our community.”

The new wells will allow the Ripley Aquifer formation around the City of Greenville to recharge and recover over time. These funds will also be used to construct water transmission mains, an elevated water tank, and a groundwater well treatment plant – all ensuring the City of Greenville and Butler County have the infrastructure necessary to meet existing and future clean water usage demands.

“When I joined the Appropriations Committee, I promised to return your hard-earned taxpayer dollars home to Alabama,” Britt said. “I am proud to have secured $3.5 million for the City of Greenville. These funds would enable the Water Works and Sewer Board of Greenville to make significant water supply improvements with the creation of two new production wells. This will help families and small businesses across Butler County,” said Senator Britt.

Tuberville indicated that securing the funds was a top priority.

“Ensuring Alabama’s growing rural communities have access to clean and safe drinking water continues to be a top priority for my work in D.C.,” Tuberville said. “I’m proud to work alongside Senator Britt to advocate for much-needed funds for the Water Works and Sewer Board of the City of Greenville. I look forward to seeing continued growth for Greenville and Butler County as a whole.”

As a member of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, Senator Britt recently voted to advance the FY25 Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act. The legislation now awaits consideration by the full Senate.
