The City of Georgiana Water Board held a public hearing on Sept. 4 to address questions and concerns regarding newly acquired funding dedicated to sewer improvements. Josh Pierce, an engineer with Goodwyn Mills and Cawood, attended the meeting to explain the scope of the project and its budget.
“The intent of this meeting is basically just to talk about the scope of the project and the budget and to answer any specific questions that the public may have about the project,” Pierce said.
The project’s total budget of $2,169,250 is funded through an American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM). It aims to rehabilitate the city’s sanitary sewer collection system in various areas.
Pierce explained that the project would be bid out in two phases, starting with a CCTV inspection and cleaning, followed by targeted repairs based on the initial findings.
“We’ll come in, jet it out, clean it, and then they’ll run a camera and video,” Pierce said. “Then we’ll provide a report that goes from manhole to manhole, stating the condition of the pipe.”
The initial phase is expected to be bid out by the end of the year, with the second phase to address identified problem areas planned for next year.
