Lee Tanner, the newly appointed Commander of American Legion Post 24, is stepping into his role with a clear mission to increase the organization’s public presence.
Following the June resignation of former Commander Liza Berrey, Tanner, a 23-year Air Force veteran, has been eager to build on the foundation laid by his predecessor while forging a new path forward.
“There have been some really good things done in the past, but I have a vision of where I’d like to see us go this year,” Tanner said. “That is to get our face out into the public and let a lot more people know that we’re here.”
Tanner is already planning several initiatives to bring more attention to Post 24, including participating in local events such as Camellia CityFest, downtown trick-or-treating and the Christmas parade, as well as hosting the annual turkey shoot fundraiser.
“I want to make sure that veterans in the area know we’re here and know the resources that are available to them, whether it’s a monetary benefit, medical needs or just the support of this group,” Tanner said.
