The Greenville Camellia Society (GCS) is featured in a national magazine article. The June-August 2024 issue of “The Camellia Journal,” a quarterly publication of the American Camellia Society (ACS) mailed to members across the country and internationally, included the piece authored by Greenville’s own and a GCS member, Pamala Nolan.

The article details the evolution of the 2024 Greenville Camellia Show, the first one held in Greenville in decades. The story is enhanced by photos taken by local resident Kathy Pickens.

“We are thrilled to be spotlighted in ‘The Camellia Journal,’” said Jan Newton, GCS president. “There is so much interest in Greenville, its camellia history and our historical camellia shows in the camellia world. When the editor approached us about doing a story, we had so much we wanted to tell ACS members that it was hard to limit the article to the required length.”

Helena Shirley, show chairman, invites everyone to attend the 2025 Greenville Camellia Show which will be held on Saturday, Feb. 15 and Sunday, Feb. 16 at the Wendell Mitchell Conference Center on the Lurleen B. Wallace Community College Greenville campus.

“Mark your calendars and plan on attending the show. It’s not too soon to be thinking about which of your camellia blooms to submit for awards,” she said.

The GCS is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting interest in and knowledge of our state flower, the Japonica Camellia, and other varieties of camellias. Their goal is to produce an annual American Camellia Society-sponsored camellia show and strive to make it the best show in the state.
