The annual Coaches Corner event drew a large crowd at Beeland Park on Tuesday, Aug. 6, as coaches and student-athletes from Greenville, Fort Dale, Georgiana and McKenzie schools came together to kick off the football season.
“The four corners of Butler County football converged Tuesday afternoon during the annual Coaches Corner event and everyone had a great time,” said Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce Director Tracy Salter. “The Chamber has co-hosted and sponsored the event for many years, and it’s always a fun start to kickoff the football season.”
Co-sponsored by the Greenville Kiwanis Club and the Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce, the event saw more than seventy attendees. Coaches and players were introduced to the crowd before the Q&A session aired live on Q94, during which they discussed their upcoming seasons, sharing their hopes and concerns. Each coach highlighted the dedication and hard work their teams have invested.
When asked about his team’s biggest strengths and weaknesses, Fort Dale Academy’s coach Eric Folmar spoke about the effect of losing and gaining athletes.
“We’ve got 12 seniors, a lot of which have played a ton of football. Some of these guys have been three- or four-year starters,” Folmar said. ” A lot of these guys are also part of the one and nine season in 2020 and the two and eight in 2021
“We’ve also got some guys on our team this year that weren’t a part of that process, that were either too young or have just now come out and joined the football program. They don’t understand what it took to get us here…our job as leaders is to make sure that they understand what it took to get us here and keep that same work ethic and protect our culture to continue to grow our program.”
In addition to the program, guests enjoyed a lunch provided by Nanny’s Fine Dining, and nearly a dozen door prizes were presented.
“A special thank you to the coaches, players, and sponsors of coaches’ gifts and door prizes for making this year’s event a huge success,” Salter added. “It takes a good bit of work to host events, and we are very appreciative of everyone involved in the process.”
“Kiwanis Club has been doing this for years and we are excited about it every year,” said Kiwanis Club President Abbie Ballew. “I think it has grown every year. I’m excited to hear from the coaches and see the players, and we’re excited to support them throughout the year.”
