The Alabama Lions Sight mobile eye clinic, originally scheduled to take place at the Butler County Health Department, will now be held at Beeland Park after a recent fire destroyed the health department building.

Lions Club Service Chair James Little explained the change of venue.

“Due to the recent fire at the health department, the Greenville Lions Club worked with the mayor’s office and found an alternative location for the August and November scheduled Mobile Sight Clinics, which will now take place at Beeland Park,” Little said.

The mobile clinic will be available on Aug. 15 and Nov. 21, offering full-dilated eye exams for $20 and glasses ranging from $40 to $60.

During a previous interview, Lions Sight Chief Operations Officer, Cody Davis, highlighted the organization’s efforts.

“We go to Departments of Public Health and do full dilation eye exams,” Davis said.  “We are literally the same as a brick-and-mortar eye doctor but on wheels.”

Founded in 1928, the Greenville Lions Club is part of Lions International, a global organization with the motto “We Serve.” The club supports eight global causes, including childhood cancer, diabetes, disaster relief, environment, humanitarian efforts, hunger, youth and vision. Since 1944, Alabama Lions Sight Conservation Association has helped more than 500,000 people throughout Alabama by promoting sight conservation through research, education, detection and treatment.

According to Little, the Greenville Lions Club raises thousands of dollars each year for Alabama Lions Sight, collects readers to donate and promotes the mobile eye clinics that visit Greenville multiple times throughout the year. The mobile clinic currently serves 43 of the 67 counties in Alabama and aims to eventually cover the entire state.
