On June 21, Calliope Pettis, also known as Miss Calliope, brought her energetic sing-along program to the Greenville Butler County Public Library.

Pettis, a classically trained vocalist, travels to libraries, museums, schools, and private events, encouraging children to express themselves through music and movement.

“I’m a singer-songwriter, a performer, and a teaching artist,” Pettis said. “The songs we’re performing today were written in collaboration with curriculum development specialists from the state of Alabama to cover K-5 learning standards so there’s a lot of singing and dancing, a lot of kinesthetic learning as well as hands-on learning.”

In addition to her live performances, Pettis also promotes her children’s album, “From the Soil to the Stars,” which focuses on both educational content and character development.

“It has songs about things like the soil, how plants grow, birds and stars,” Pettis explained. “Teaching kids and encouraging them to be kind.”

The event was one of many held as part of the library’s summer program. For more information, visit www.greenville-bcpl.org
