Lawrence​ ​Hamilton​ ​Philpot,​ ​Sr.​ ​passed​ ​away​ ​on​ ​June​ ​20,​ ​at​ ​the​ ​age​ ​of​ ​88​ ​in​ ​his​ ​hometown​ ​of​ ​Greenville.​ ​

Funeral Services were held on Sunday, June 23, beginning at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Dunklin Funeral Home with Brother Herbert Brown officiating and Dunklin Funeral Home directing.  Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. The family received friends for visitation beginning at 2 p.m. until service time.

Although​ ​his​ ​health​ ​had​ ​declined​ ​in​ ​his​ ​last​ ​few​ ​weeks,​ ​he​ ​continued​ ​to​ ​tell​ ​his​ ​stories​ ​to​ ​anyone​ ​who​ ​would​ ​listen​ ​and​ ​he​ ​enjoyed​ ​seeing​ ​all​ ​his​ ​friends​ ​and​ ​family​ ​who​ ​stopped​ ​in​ ​to​ ​visit.​ ​

Lawrence​ ​met​ ​the​ ​love​ ​of​ ​his​ ​life,​ ​Myrlene​ ​Newton,​ ​at​ ​a​ ​café​ ​in​ ​downtown​ ​Greenville.​ ​he​ ​said​ ​she​ ​was​ ​the​ ​prettiest​ ​thing​ ​he​ ​had​ ​ever​ ​seen.​ ​They​ ​married​ ​on​ ​Nov.​ ​9,​ ​1954​ ​and​ ​had​ ​four ​children.​ ​

He​ ​was​ ​preceded​ ​to​ ​heaven​ ​by​ ​his​ ​wife​ ​Myrlene,​ ​his​ ​beloved​ ​granddaughter​ ​Brittany​ ​Myrlena​ ​Harris;​ ​precious​ ​great-granddaughter​ ​Lauren​ ​Elizabeth​ ​Harris; ​sister​ ​Mary​ ​Sarno; ​father,​ ​Ed​ ​Mac​ ​Philpot​ ​and​ ​mother​ ​Howell​ ​Frances​ ​Hamilton​ ​Philpot.​ ​

Lawrence​ ​was​ ​an​ ​avid​ ​fox​ ​hunter.​ ​He​ ​loved​ ​walker​ ​hound​ ​dogs,​ ​red​ ​foxes​ ​and​ ​Alabama​ ​football​ ​(not​ ​necessarily​ ​in​ ​that​ ​order).​ ​

Those​ ​left​ ​to​ ​remember​ ​him​ ​are​ ​his​ ​children,​ ​Larry​ ​Philpot​ ​(Barbara)​ ​Greenville ​;Kenny​ ​Philpot​ ​(Becky)​ ​Montgomery;​ ​Allison​ ​Harris​ ​(Terry)​ ​Greenville;​ ​Beverly​ ​Ogburn​ ​(Steven)​ ​Auburn​;​ ​grandchildren​ ​Trey​ ​Philpot,​ ​Clint​ ​Philpot​ ​(Beth),​ ​Dylan​ ​Ogburn,​ ​Tate​ ​Ogburn ​and​ ​Bryan​ ​Harris;​ ​great​ ​grandchildren,​ ​Cora​ ​Philpot​ ​and​ ​Lily​ ​Philpot,​ ​sister​ ​Carolyn​ ​Reed;​ ​brothers​ ​Charles​ ​Philpot​ ​and​ ​Don​ ​Philpot​ ​and​ ​a​ ​host​ ​of​ ​other​ ​relatives​ ​and​ ​friends.

While​ ​we​ ​have​ ​lost​ ​our​ ​deeply​ ​loved​ ​daddy,​ ​grandpaw,​ ​uncle,​ ​cousin​ ​and​ ​brother​ ​we​ ​know​ ​that​ ​many​ ​have​ ​lost​ ​a​ ​great​ ​friend,​ ​co-worker​ ​and​ ​hunting​ ​buddy.​ ​So​ ​we​ ​invite​ ​you​ ​to​ ​share​ ​your​ ​stories​ ​about​ ​Lawrence​ ​and​ ​talk​ ​about​ ​all​ ​the​ ​good​ ​times.​ ​He​ ​would​ ​love​ ​that​ ​we​ ​are​ ​laughing​ ​and​ ​reminiscing​ ​together​ ​during​ ​this​ ​time.
