On May 14, the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles denied parole to a man convicted of a Butler County murder.

Janaldo Terrell Scott, 43, was denied parole in a May 14 hearing. He is currently housed at the Elmore Correctional Facility and has served 20 years of a life-sentence for murder.

Scott’s sentence resulted from a February 2006 conviction for the March 24, 2004 killing of Dolye Alonzo Hudson, Sr. Scott, along with two others, George Allen Burnett and Maurice Cortez Tyson, were convicted of the murder which occurred after a robbery-gone-wrong.

The three men bludgeoned Scott to death after he confronted them during the robbery attempt.

In March 2012, Scott petitioned the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama’s Northern Division challenging his murder conviction. Scott contended his guilty plea was coerced. Scott also alleged he received ineffective assistance of counsel and claimed the Butler County Circuit Court lacked jurisdiction to render judgment or impose sentence.

The court denied Scott’s petition April 8, 2015, dismissing the case because he failed to submit the objection during the allotted one-year period of limitation.

Sandra Rudolph, Scott’s sister, and his daughter, Shynarean Scott, appealed to the board on his behalf. Speaking against Scott’s parole were the victim’s son, Doyle Hudson, the victim’s sister, Marilyn Valley, Victims of Crime and Leniency (VOCAL) representative Marilyn Valley and the Alabama Attorney General’s Victim Services officer India Eaves.

The board denied Scott parole with a reset date of May 2029. It heard 25 parole petitions, granting eight and denying 17. 

The board also continued two parole hearings to a later date and heard 10 pardon requests, granting six and denying four.
