Desmond Johnson, a seasoned veteran in the restaurant and hospitality industry, recently opened Manor House Restaurant and Bar, located at 92 Cahaba Road. The venture marks Johnson’s fifth restaurant ownership since 2017, showcasing his passion for the industry and dedication to serving the community.
“I’ve been in the restaurant and hospitality business all my life; 34 years I’ve been doing this,” Johnson shared. “I love people. I love interacting with people. This is one of the ways you can get to meet people from all walks of life. I love what I do.”
Originally from Jamaica, Johnson’s culinary expertise extends beyond traditional Jamaican cuisine. Manor House will feature a diverse menu with over 25 entrees, 14 to 16 sides, various soups, salads and a fresh salad bar. Desserts like Reese’s Peanut Butter Pie, Key Lime Pie, Sweet Potato Pudding, Bread Pudding and Rum Cake will also be available.
“I’m Jamaican and we’ll have some Jamaican dishes but it’s not a Jamaican restaurant,” Desmond said. “A lot of people think that everything from Jamaica is spicy,” Johnson explained. “We just do flavor. It’s got a lot of flavor to it. It’s not spice. It’s just flavor.”
Allison Johnson, Desmond’s wife and the general manager of Manor House, expressed her excitement about the new endeavor.
“We’re working hard and we’ve put everything we have into this,” she said.
Manor House is designed to provide a welcoming atmosphere for all patrons, offering a kid’s menu and options for vegan and vegetarian diners. The restaurant’s hours will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
The Johnsons are confident that Manor House will become a staple in the Greenville community, offering exceptional service and delicious cuisine for all to enjoy.
