Brooks Assembly of God Church, located at 43261 AL-55 in McKenzie, is gearing up for its second annual Chili Cook-off Jan. 27 at 4 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. The contest promises an evening of fun, flavors, and friendly competition with prizes awarded for first through third place, including a winner’s plaque, engraved wooden spoons, and a monogrammed apron.
Pastor Lewis Henderson, excited about the event, sees it as more than just a competition. Henderson said he sees the event as a way to strengthen community bonds.
“It’s just a little community get-together,” Henderson said. “And of course, the winner gets bragging rights for a year.”
Gayle Sanford, a congregation member, echoes Pastor Henderson’s sentiments, stating that the church created this event last year as a way to bring the congregation and the community together.
“It’s just a day to have fun,” Sanford said. “Just great fellowship in a little country church.”
Judging by 3-4 individuals from within the congregation and the community will begin at 5 p.m.
For those interested in entering the contest, registrations are open, and anyone can call 334-804-4779 to secure their spot. The church extends a warm invitation to the entire community to attend the event and savor some delicious chili while enjoying the company of friends and neighbors.
