Listed are the Butler County community events happening throughout the month and ongoing.

Nutcracker Christmas

The city of Georgiana hosts Nutcracker Christmas downtown on Dec. 7. The tree lighting will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the parade will start at 6 p.m.

Santa Breakfast

The Greenville Chamber of Commerce and Parks & Recreation Department present Breakfast with Santa on Dec. 9 at the YMCA at 177 Academy Drive. Doors open at 9 a.m. and one can of food or one unwrapped toy is required for entrance. There will be pictures in pajamas with Santa and the Grinch. 

 

Health Fair

A Community Health Fair & Family Fun Day will take place Dec. 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the YMCA at 177 Academy Drive. There will be snacks, free kid activities like face painting, and live music. The event is hosted by EPHIPHANY, Harrison Street Christian Church, and the City of Greenville. 

 

Toy Drive-Thru

A drive-thru Toy Drive will take place in the parking lot in front of Tractor Supply on Dec. 9. Santa Claus will helicopter in at 9:30 a.m. to take photos with children and receive their Christmas lists. The drive will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring a toy from children ages five through eighteen. 

 

Opry Performance 

The Georgiana Opry House presents “Home for Christmas”, with singers Shane Owens and Curk Mosley. The event will begin at 6 p.m., with doors opening at 5 p.m. The Georgiana Opry House is located at 602 E Railroad Ave. 

 

Blood Drive

Lifesouth Community Blood Center will have a blood drive in the Walmart parking lot in Greenville on Dec. 10 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. 

 

Retiree Luncheon 

The Board of Education will host a luncheon in honor of the retired employees of the School Systems on Dec. 13 at 11:30 a.m. in the Central Office Boardroom at 949 Oglesby Street in Greenville. Humane Meeting

The Butler County Humane Society will hold its regular meeting from 12-1 p.m. on Dec. 13 at Cambrian Ridge.

 

Ritz Christmas

The annual Christmas at the Ritz will take place on Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. Adult tickets are $20 and students $10. Tickets can be purchased online, at The Vanity Salon or at the door while supplies last. 

 

Piano Concert

Boston based concert pianist Miki Sawada will host a free performance at the Georgiana Opry House on Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. Her “Gather Hear Tour” will perform nine free public concerts in seven towns and cities across the state. 

Jingle Jam

The Mount Zion Community will hold its 2nd Annual Christmas Parade, The Jingle Jam on Dec. 16 starting at 3 p.m. Line up begins at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Candy Land 

A life-size Candy Land will be created within the Greenville Public Library Dec. 16 from 9 a.m.-11:30 p.m. Children five and under will need to be accompanied by an adult. 

Toy Giveaway

Shawn Peagler presents The Jingle Jam 2nd Annual Christmas Toy Giveaway for children ages seven and under on Dec. 16 beginning at 4 p.m. Donations of cash or toys are welcome until Dec. 10. For more information contact Shawn Ppeagler on Facebook.

Celebrate Recovery 

Celebrate Recovery meets every Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at the First Assembly of God Church, 760 N. Conecuh St. in Greenville. The group deals with all types of issues and is free to the public. For more information call 334-382-2138.

 

Quilt Club 

Quilt Club meets every Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Greenville-Butler Co. Public Library. Beginner and advanced quilters welcome. 

 

Music Class

FUMC is hosting a juniors music class for elementary kids aged 4-10 at 6 p.m. on Wednesday nights at 112 Adams St. Singing, handbells, and rhythm instruments. Call  382-5872 for more info.

 

Knitting Club 

Quilt Club meets every Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Greenville-Butler Co. Public Library. Beginner and advanced knitters welcome. 

 

Meet & Greet

Beeland Park Building will host a “Roundtable Talk with Veterans” about benefits, opportunities, claims, PACT ACT, and support every Wednesday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Contact: Gloria Owens: 334-368-0540 for more information.
