The Fort Dale Eagles shutout the Monroe Volunteers 35-0 in their fifth victory of the season. The game was also a triumph for No. 1 wide receiver, Alan Alvarez, who now officially holds the title for the most receptions in a single season. Head coach Eric Folmar said the players genuinely care for each other and that is a big part of the team’s success.
“The bunch we have this year is one of the funnest groups I’ve ever coached,” Folmar said. “I think when you’ve got players that care more about their teammates success than they do their own, then you have something really special. Our seniors were thrown into the fire when they were freshmen and sophomores so we have a lot of experience as well, and that always helps. Friday nights have been a lot of fun this year. Hopefully we can keep it going.”
The Eagle’s quarterback, No. 6 Ethan Alford, threw two touchdown passes to Alvarez for 48 yards and 9 yards, and one 20-yard touchdown pass to No. 3, Owen McNeil. Joseph Ealum, No. 24, ran in a 55-yard touchdown, and Alvarez returned an interception for 80 yards in the last touchdown of the game.
Alvarez commends his teammates for aiding him in achieving the new reception record.
“It’s a huge honor knowing who has also held this record in the past,” Alvarez said. “I couldn’t have done it without the support of my teammates and the coaches believing in me. And a shutout against Monroe makes it even sweeter!”
Folmar said he is proud of Alvarez and that he is a very hard worker.
“Alan’s success speaks for itself,” Folmar said. “No one works harder than that young man and it shows with him continuing to stack up records. Fort Dale has had some really good players come through here and he’s put himself right up there at the top with the best of them.”
The Eagles next game will be at home against Valiant Cross on Oct. 6.
