With cooler weather trickling in, the Butler County Fair draws near offering four days of entertainment, fun, contests and good food as the themed event “Rebuilding Butler County Fair” aspires to revive the traditional aspects of fairs’ past. 

One of these aspects is the arts, crafts, agriculture and livestock competitions where community members will be vying for the “Best of the Fair Ribbon” in each division. Michelle Styron, the entertainment chairman for the fair, said she is excited to highlight the community in this way. 

“We just love to highlight Butler County, and at the fair is one of the best ways to be able to highlight everything the community is doing during the year!” Styron said. 

The fair divisions will include these categories:

• Adult and youth “Needlework/Textiles”
• Adult and youth “Handicrafts”
• Adult “Wearing Apparel”
• Adult and youth “Food Preservation”
• Adult and youth “Art”
• Adult “Potted Plant Show”
• Adult “Agriculture”
• Adult “Livestock & Poultry”

All judging will take place on Sept. 26 and be based on the entry’s relation to the central theme, attractiveness and neatness, educational value and the quality and variety of objects used. 

Joann Mathews, the commercial and community booth chairman for the fair, said she is excited for the returning flower show category, and encourages the community’s participation. 

“We welcome any and all people who want to participate in the Butler County Fair.” Mathews said. “The more people that we have and the more items we have displayed, makes our community look good!”

There will be a Best of the Fair Ribbon awarded for each division, and first and second place ribbons for every “lot” category within a division. Each division contains multiple “classes” of categories, and each class is divided into multiple “lot” niche categories. 

Annie Glenn Braden, the arts and crafts chairman for the fair, said she looks forward to seeing all of the categories fill up. 

“We are excited to have a full exhibit hall at the Butler County Fair this year,” Braden said. “We would love to have everyone enter items they have sewn, canned, painted, grown or created to be displayed and judged!”

All exhibit entries need to be dropped off Sunday, Sept. 24 between 2:00-4:00 p.m. and Monday, Sept. 25 between 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Call 334-371-2000 for questions.
