Ada Claire Hobbie Cheatham Solomons

Ada Claire Hobbie Cheatham Solomons, 99, died Aug. 17, at Crowne Healthcare in Greenville after years of declining health. 

Graveside Service will be held Sep. 7, at 11 a.m. at the Samuel Cheatham Lot, Magnolia Cemetery, Greenville, with the Rev. Linda-Suzanne Borgen officiating.   

Ada Claire was preceded in death by her parents, James Calvin Hobbie and Ada Murphy Hobbie; all her five siblings; her first husband, Robert Houston Cheatham; her second husband, Kenneth Platt Solomons Jr.; daughter, Brenda Cheatham Morton; stepdaughter, Marion Solomons Norman; step-granddaughter, Fran Daniel Branum; step-grandson, John Solomons Norman; and an infant son.  

She is survived by two daughters, Laura Cheatham Sweetman of Litchfield, Conn., and Deborah Cheatham Houston of Bainbridge, Georgia.;  two step-children Priscilla Solomons and Kenneth (Cathy) Solomons of Greenville; sister-in-law, Betty Hobbie of Greenville; granddaughters Caroline (Dane) Huffman, Raleigh, N.C.; Jamie (Scott) Gray and Sarah (Michael) Carr of Litchfield, Conn.; and Claire Vaughn of Houston; grandson Anselm Herbert Morton IV of Marietta, Georgia.; two step-granddaughters; two step grandsons; many nieces, nephews, cousins and “greats”.  

Ada Claire was loved by many. She was known for her generous definition of family and her joy in preparing feasts for them. She leaves a legacy of kindness and compassion for others.
