For just 50 cents, Greenville residents reading the Advocate in 1893 could order a remedy guaranteed to kill chicken fleas.

The Greenville Advocate ran an advertisement on May 17, 1893 for a Milligan, Florida store promoting a product guaranteed to cure poultry flocks of chicken fleas. On June 6, Greenville resident Joyce Till brought a copy into the Advocate office. The ad had been located online and sent to her by a family member with this note, “I thought you would like to see how far we have come since we had to worry about chicken fleas.” The Advocate staff wish to thank Mrs. Till for helping to continue connecting Greenville community’s past with the present.
