Swinney commits to Enterprise State

Jailah Swinney will represent her hometown at Enterprise State Community College in the fall.

A signing day ceremony was held at Greenville High School on May 23 honoring 2023 graduate and basketball standout Jailah Swinney. Swinney committed to continue her education and basketball career at Enterprise State Community College during the ceremony held in the high school auditorium, as family, friends, teammates, coaches, and administrators looked on.
Coach SaRhonda Cheatham praised Swinney’s accomplishments and character on and off the court.
“Jailah was a great asset to our team,” Cheatham said. “She averaged at least 12 points, seven rebounds, and two assists every game.”
Cheatham recalls that she practically had to beg Jailah to take a shot at basketball as a freshman student, and said Swinney could barely catch a ball at the time.
“She has grown so much over these past 4 years, and we are very proud of her growth,” Cheatham said.
The 6-foot-1 center says that she plans to study nursing while attending Enterprise State. Her goal is to become a registered nurse.
Swinney also added that she is excited about playing on the collegiate level, as she continues to grow and excel in the sport.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity,” she said.
Enterprise State head coach George Scott shared salutations with the Swinney family, and welcomed Swinney to the Enterprise family.
“It’s hard to find a player like Jailah,” he said.” “She has room to grow and is very coachable.”
Scott expressed he is looking forward to having a championship program for the upcoming year, and is glad to have Swinney as a part of the team.
Principal Jamie Howard congratulated Swinney on her future endeavors, noting that she was a hard working student who is dependable, a great athlete, and has a great personality.
Swinney’s mother, Joncie Shepherd said that she is extremely proud of her daughter’s accomplishments, and that the whole family is excited.
“Jailah will study nursing, and I know that she will do well, because she is very dedicated to accomplishing her goals,” Shepherd said.
