In the Dec. 7 edition of The Greenville Advocate, longtime Greenville resident Fletcher Curry celebrated his 106th birthday – an incredible milestone for one of the many friendly faces who choose to call Greenville and Butler County home.
His friends, family, and other well-wishers participated in a parade where they all drove by his home to wish him a “Happy Birthday,” a feel-good moment highlighting one of the many reasons why living in Greenville is a joy.
Curry credited his faith in God instilled at a young age as a key component of his long and eventful life, and he certainly has been blessed with a life full of memories, moments, and observations.
Take a few moments to realize just how many significant achievements Curry has lived through.
Born in 1916, Curry may have been too young to remember the start of the first World War, but his teen years took place during most of The Great Depression.
Curry has lived through numerous wars, the Civil Rights Movement, the moon landing, 9/11, and many more noteworthy events in U.S. and world history.
Imagine being in Curry’s shoes growing up and seeing the many innovations to occur during his lifetime, from technological advancements to the marvels of modern medicine. Curry also lived during both the Spanish flu and COVID-19 pandemics, a claim not many can make.
Curry has seen our society develop from the hardships of The Great Depression to the excesses, conveniences, and luxuries of modern-day living.
It would be safe to say Curry’s had a chance to see our society at its best and worst of times, yet he still remains humble, friendly, and committed to God.
We enjoy seeing our community members reach significant milestones in life, and we congratulate Curry for his longevity and his enduring faith.
