Green Bay Packers’ outside linebacker Za’Darius Smith grew up in the small town of Greenville AL.
To show some love to his community, Smith donated 1,000 Nike sneakers to Greenville elementary and middle school students.
Smiths GOoD Life Foundation was a collaborator in the project.
The GOoD Life Foundation supports and promotes the skills of young adolescent boys and girls in communities with limited resources.
Butler County Superintendent Joseph Eiland welcomed everyone who attended the presentation at W.O. Palmer Elementary.
He then explained to students how special the event was.
“One of the things I teach my children is generosity,” Eiland said. ” It’s so wonderful that we have someone who came from Greenville, who’s become a big celebrity, come and give back to his community today.”
The GOoD Life Foundation Executive Director Genniefer Meeks says the foundation and Smith wanted to help the kids grow as people.”When you make good choices good things come to you,” Meeks said. “We want to reward you for your good choices and continue giving you what you need to grow.”
Following her presentation Matthew Edgeworks with Dick’s Sporting Goods presented Greenville High School and Greenville Middle School with a $7,500 check to help their sports programs.
This is the second time Smith has donated his time and effort to give back to the people in Greenville.
Weeks ago Smith handed out nearly 400 hams and turkeys to community members at the Greenville Superfoods Marketplace for Thanksgiving.
