Heading into his first year as Fort Dale Academy’s head football coach, Eric Folmar responded to questions related to his improvement of the team during the live Q&A panel at the Greenville Kiwanis Club’s Coaches Corner event.
During the panel, Coach Folmar stressed just how important the weight room was to improving the overall physicality of the team.
“When I got on with the team, the first thing I wanted to do was reestablish the weight room,” Folmar said. “The kids were told that the weight room was the most important asset we have. We are not as fortunate as other private schools that we play against who get a few new kids a year. We want to develop the kids that we have.”
According to Folmar, it was the emphasis on the weight room that led to the changes that fans will be able to see right away, as well as throughout the season.
“The kids are physically different due to the time we spent in the weight room,” Folmar said. “It’s been a big part of what we are doing. We’ve had mandatory work outs three days a week and seen a lot of growth from our players because of it.”
In addition to responding to questions about how he has improved the team, Folmar responded to questions about how he sees the season playing out for the team.
“We have our work cut out for us, but we feel comfortable and set our goal to make the playoffs.” Folmar said. “We think this goal is really realistic for us. We need to have things go our way and remain healthy but I’ve told the kids that what’s really important is we control what we can control and give it our best effort. If we do that, then we can live with the results, whatever they may be.”
