LBW Adult Education and Workforce Development now offers the Ready to Work
program at the Butler County Jail to provide workplace training for inmates preparing to
enter the workforce.
“Having an opportunity to help inmates further their education and job readiness
is a great feeling,” said Butler County Sheriff, Danny Bond. “By giving these non-
violent offenders an opportunity to get their Ready to Work certification along with
other necessary job skills so they can gain employment is life-changing for them
and their families.”
Upon successful completion of the RTW program, graduates receive two industry-
recognized credentials – National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) and Alabama
Certified Worker Certificate.
The RTW curriculum consists of online and classroom components to prepare
participants, including technology basics, FDIC money management, job prep,
communications, problem solving, applied math, graphic literacy, and workplace
documents,
“We are excited to partner with Sheriff Bond and the Butler County Jail to
prepare inmates to succeed in the workforce after leaving incarceration through
career pathway training,” said Dean of Workforce Development and Strategic
Initiatives, Jennifer Hall. “Studies show that inmates who receive
career/vocational training are less likely to become reincarcerated.”
All RTW curriculum is offered at no cost to participants through a partnership with the
Alabama Community College System. The training is set to standards cited by
business and industry employers in Alabama and includes soft skills, time management,
problem-solving, and critical thinking techniques.
“This is a great partnership between the Sheriff’s Office and LBW Community
College,” Sheriff Bond added. “If it can help just one person, then we have truly
made a difference.”
The RTW program is also offered at the LBW Greenville Campus. For details about the
program offered through the College, please contact Instructional Coordinator, Kelsi
Scruggs at kscruggs@lbwcc.edu.
