The City of Luverne took the next necessary step at Monday’s city council meeting for the pre-construction plans of the new Jack’s restaurant.
After being approved for an ADECA economic development grant, the city awarded Bullard Excavating as the construction company that will be taking over duties of building the turn lane needed for the restaurant.
Bullard Excavating was chosen as the lowest-bidder between three other companies.
The turn lane, which is required by ADECA for safety regulations, still has no timetable for the groundbreaking.
“We still need to have a couple meetings with them [Bullard Excavating]. We haven’t really started on those pre-construction plans, but it will be coming soon,” said City Engineer Michelle Royals.
As for the construction of the restaurant, Royals says she had expected demolition to start by now.
The Jack’s will be built at the site of the old Hidden Treasure’s building off of Forest Ave.
“We look forward to working with Bullard Excavating moving forward,” Royals said. “We should start seeing progress with the demolition as soon as construction on the turn lane starts.”
