The Board of Trustees for the Alabama Community College System approved a recommendation on Wednesday for the appointment of Dr. Kathy L. Murphy as President of Gadsden State Community College.
Dr. Murphy acknowledges the honor of being selected to serve the students, faculty, and staff at Gadsden State Community College.
Dr. Murphy has served as Superintendent of Hoover City Schools since June 2015.
“It has been the highlight of my career to serve as the Superintendent of Hoover City Schools. HCS is one of the finest school districts in the state and nation. It holds this distinction because of outstanding teachers, school leaders, support staff, and the school board. Blend this with the fine young people in our district, their caring parents, and a supportive city and the formula is complete for greatness. HCS will continue its fine tradition of success,” Dr. Murphy said.
Alabama Community College System (ACCS) Chancellor Jimmy H. Baker appointed Murphy, who was selected after a months-long search by a presidential committee.
“Dr. Murphy is a visionary educator with a proven record of focusing on all aspects of the student experience, which is the leadership we aim for at every community college in our state,” Baker stated. “I am confident that Dr. Murphy’s determination to work alongside the faculty, staff, and community at Gadsden State will reap great benefits for the college as they continue to provide the education and skills training needed for Alabama’s workforce,” Chancellor Baker said.
Dr. Murphy is slated to begin her appointment at Gadsden State Community College on January 1, 2021.
Murphy is a Greenville native.
