For the second year in a row, local breast cancer survivors, friends and family will walk to bring honor to those who have survived and to raise awareness of the disease.

This year’s event is slated for Oct. 17 from 9 am until 11 a.m. in downtown Greenville.

Organizer Sonya Blakenship said that they had 80 people participate last year in the first-ever event.

She said the walk begins at the Sellers Law Firm parking lot and they continue downtown.

Blakenship is a breast cancer survivor and she said that they just wanted to bring awareness since so many women in the community are survivors.

She said last year’s event drew women from surrounding counties including Conecuh and Crenshaw.

She hopes this year’s walk will bring even more people.

The month of October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and the annual walk is what many places all over world do to increase awareness of the disease.

Greenville is showing the support to all Breast Cancer Survivors and would like for everyone to come out and support also.

Survivors will need to RSVP by October 1, 2020. For more information, Brittany Blakenship at 334-437-3279 or S. Blakenship 225-300-9311.
