Robert South once said, “if there be any truer measure of a man than by what he does, it must be by what he gives.”
Brantley residents know that when it comes to fundraisers for schools, Michael and Jackie Barnes, always step up to the plate. The couple own Michael’s Southern Foods in downtown Brantley.
Michael Barnes said they have been in business in the Front Porch City for 14 years.
But, now the restaurant needs approximately $24,000 to repair its old roof.
Crystal Wossilek saw the need and created a gofundme account, which has raised $1,055 of the goal.
“This may seem silly or insignificant to some, but this is something that I have thought about doing for quite some time now, and today seems like the day to do it,” Wossilek said on the gofundme page. “It’s no secret around town that Michael’s needs a new roof. Michael and Jackie have been a part of and given back to this community in so many ways and it is now our turn to help them. They have hosted countless school fundraisers, allowed people to use their facilities or items from scarlets closet for baby showers or other events and even in mine and others cases given us jobs when we needed extra income to support our families. I know there are a million other causes others may feel are more important but It’s also important to uplift and support each other and this community. Covid has affected many of us financially and I am sure anything anyone can do to help would be tremendously appreciated even if it’s only $5.”
Barnes said that some donations are coming in to the restaurant and that someone recently dropped off a donation to help.
